Hi all! I have problem with CRU in Windows 11, however in Windows 7 it works good.
I have monitor without proper EDID (or it is broken) ViewSonic VG2030wm and native resolution of it is 1680x1050. Video card is very simple Radeon HD 5450 1Gb (without fan and without PCI-E power).

In Windows 7 in CRU I set 1680x1050@60 in "Standard resulutions" section and then I run restart64.exe, after that I have ability to set native resolution in screen resolution options of Windows OS.

In Windows 11 in CRU I do the same but somtimes after restart64.exe nothing happens and 1680x1050 doesn't appear in Windows OS settings and sometimes after restart64.exe I just see the black screen with mouse cursor only (that makes me to push the reset button).

Any help?

Windows 11 does not allow EDID overrides for monitors without a valid EDID. Also the first post says do not add the native resolution as a standard resolution.

If the EDID is broken, try using EDWriter to fix it: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa...yID-Writer

Click "Read EDID," click "Yes" if it offers to fix the data, then click "Write EDID." If it says the display is write-protected, try to figure out how to get into the monitor's service menu. Usually the service menu can be accessed by holding one or two buttons down while powering on the monitor. If the service menu has a burn-in mode option, enable that. Then try writing the EDID again.

What port are you using on the monitor? Usually each port has its own EDID, so if the EDID is corrupted on one port, you can usually use another port. DVI would be preferred though.

Another option is to use an EDID emulator. If the video card has an HDMI port, you can use an HDMI EDID emulator with an HDMI to DVI cable. I don't see any that have 1680x1050 by default, but you will be able to use CRU.

These will give you 1024x768 by default which is a safe mode for most monitors:

This tool doesn't work - it says "No compatible display found". By the way now my monitor is connected with VGA-VGA cable. Earlier I tried DVI-DVI without CRU but it works in 1024x768 only mode (with VGA cable and without CRU it allows to work in many resolutions 1024x768, 1280x800, ... 1366x768 ... , 1440x900, 1600x1200 but not in native 1680x1050)

I discovered only one way to make it work in native resolution 1680x1050 in Windows 11 - Uncheck "Use EDID" in "Catalyst Control Center" tool and set there maximum resolution to 1680x1050. But this solution works only before Windows 11 restart. After restart "Use EDID" is checked again and monitor works in wrong resolution.

How about use INF file to override EDID? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/window...itor-edids

Are you not able to use CRU with the VGA port? What does CRU show for each port? If it says Generic Non-PnP Monitor with no resolutions, then the monitor doesn't have a valid EDID. If it shows resolutions, you should be able to edit the correct native resolution.

That's what CRU does.

If the monitor doesn't provide scaling options, the only other option I can think of is using borders, but CRU doesn't currently support borders because they are almost never used, and the lowest possible vertical resolution would be 1650 instead of 1620. I need an export of the EDID to make that work.

There are 3 edids, they were positioned in this order, the first is called the same as the third and has the word "active" written on it and in fact it is the one in function, then there was a second one which however disappeared when I performed the reset.

Now I use VGA cable. What about DVI - I used it long time ago and I am not sure that I can find it for now, is it so necessary to try DVI? Video card has VGA, DVI and HDMI ports, but monitor has VGA and DVI ports only. Monitor is ViewSonic VG2030wm and video card is Radeon HD 5450 1GB (fanless and powerless).

Other PC components: Mainboard HP Z420 (FMB-1101), LGA2011 Xeon E5 2690 from 2.7Ghz to 3.8Ghz in Turbo 8C 16T, RAM HP DDR3 ECC 4x4=16Gb, 1xSATA SSD Storage, 3xHDD Storages (no-RAID), 1xDVD-RW Drive, 800W ExeGate PSU.

In Windows 7 CRU works fine for me and this is what CRU shows in 7:

The problem is in Windows 11 only! I want to set constant native resolution 1680x1050 and don't reset it after each reboot in Win 11. I found only one way to setup 1680x1050 in Catalst Control Center (uncheck "Use EDID" checkbox), but it resets to wrong resolution after reboot.

May be crack/patch some files of Windows 11 core to make work CRU? I don’t mind breaking Windows 11 installation because it’s installed on a separate HDD for testing purpose. May be use monitor driver subsystem from Windows 7? I use Windows 11 24H2 LTSC.

I already gave you three solutions: fix the EDID on the monitor somehow, try using DVI instead, or use an HDMI EDID emulator with an HDMI-DVI cable. Another option is to use Windows 10.

I created two EDID installers. One only has 3840x1650 @ 60 Hz using borders. The other has both 3840x1650 and 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz, but I'm not sure which one NVIDIA will use for NIS/FSR, so you'll have to test that yourself.

May be there is one more option - apply monitor/driver subsystem from Win 10 to Win 11 with disabeling driver signature mode? Or it's impossible to crack Win 11? I repeat that I'm not afraid to brake Win 11 installation, because I don't have any important data on HDD with Win 11 and I can easely format it!

How would you do that?
