I've been dealing with an issue for years that I never really was able to get around, especially now that I have an ultrawide monitor. I have a soundbar I use with my computer that I can only get uncompressed 5.1 audio to via HDMI. Unfortunately it's not compatible with newer monitors and refresh rates so I cannot use the passthrough port on the soundbar to get video to my monitor.

What this has left me with for years is a phantom monitor that cannot be displayed that occasionally an app window will get lost in. I've become an expert at moving the apps blind back to my main monitor but I'd really like to get a solution that doesn't have the phantom monitor anymore. No HDMI splitters or audio extractors on the market support the resolution I'm running, 5120x1440@240Hz HDR VRR. Some say they support HDMI 2.1 and/or 48Gbps that "should" work, but in reality all only really support 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios for whatever reason (I've confirmed with multiple units and inquiries with manufacturers of others).

So.. do I have any hope with CRU, or does anyone else have another solution? Thanks!
Unfortunately, Windows doesn't have any concept of audio-only HDMI connections. They would need to add a way to disable the display without disabling the audio.

That one should work, but I'm wondering if the Insignia should as well. I can't find much information about the Insignia adapter. If the Plugable doesn't work either, then something is wrong with the driver because I know this used to work correctly with the R9 290/290X.

I got a new 4K OLED monitor and I want to set it to 144 hz at 4k and my HDMI 2.1 bandwidth should have the headroom for it. (it is rated for 165 at 4k but I'd have to enable DSC for that *yuck*.)

However, editing either the new or my old (2nd) monitor's EDID in any way will break the Nvidia Control Panel. And I mean any change will screw it up. Whether that be CTA blocks, refresh rates in any sector, or even the gsync ranges.

The "break" in this case is that Nvidia control panel will lose all functionality, and only the "video color" and "3d settings" panels will be available. Nothing else. Reset_all fixes it but obviously resets everything.
You need to report that to NVIDIA support. It's a bug in their driver. I don't know what the trigger is, so I don't have a workaround.
hello ive been at this for two days i just switched back to team red and i really want to create a custom res of 7680x1440 but not to use for just desktop display but to run games in that res that dont allow setting files to be customized. the way nvidia dose this is by the dsr and some other tweaking but since amd has vsr i cant do anything. please show me the light at the end of the tunnel ive lost sleep over this. also to add i run the game in windowed and use the borderless gaming app.

Thank you for confirming. I will make sure to do so.Smile
Hi all, hoping someone can help me out. My TV (TCL C805) only allows VRR when in TV game mode. When I use CRU to remove the 4096 TV resolutions (while game mode is on) my TV no longer gets a PC signal when game mode is disabled.

Is there a workaround for this at all? I'm using an RTX5080.

Just deleting resolutions shouldn't cause no signal. That sounds like an NVIDIA driver bug. Do you have any other displays connected? What happens if you remove the resolutions with game mode disabled first, and then remove the resolutions with game mode enabled?

What monitor do you have? What is the "other tweaking" you did with NVIDIA?

Hey thanks for replying. If I delete the resolutions with game mode disabled, then enabling game mode doesn't turn on VRR. But the signal doesn't drop.

It's like when game mode is on, it only accepts a signal that's outputting VRR. But when it was off, it just stays in a non VRR mode.

I understand what's happening now. The TV is changing the EDID to include VRR when enabling game mode, but since the device ID stays the same, the EDID override affects both modes, so VRR stays active when disabling game mode, but the TV doesn't support VRR with game mode disabled, which is why you get no signal. I'm not sure how to work around this because there's no way to do a separate EDID override for each mode if NVIDIA's driver considers both modes to be the same display. The easiest option would be to just use game mode all the time. The more advanced option would be to modify the EDID on the TV directly, but usually it's write-protected, and I'm not sure if the service menu offers a way to unlock it, and every firmware update might reset the EDID.
