2. don't overclock your 165 hz, because it's a limit for your matrix (more blur, heat inside), you need to buy a new one with 360 hz and over
@ToastyX Thank you very much for adding support for reading and editing existing extension override data blocks; that makes life a lot easier! I had two quick questions as I am still trying to find the best configuration for my new 5120x1440 monitor:

- Is it the "Preferred" flag that determines which resolution is identified as the "native" resolution by the OS and driver? On 1.5.2 when I was adding new extension blocks to add new refresh rates to my monitor, I noticed that the native resolution changed from 5120x1440 to 3840x1080 and that screwed up the DSR resolutions. But now on 1.5.3, I am editing the existing extension block from the monitor instead, and I noticed that the native resolution is not changing anymore. The only difference I found was that one of the existing resolutions in the existing block is marked as "Preferred".

- I am trying to get to 5120x1440 @ 165 Hz on HDMI 2.1 without DSC, but despite using the "Exact reduced" timing template to minimize the pixel clock (currently at 1285), I get sporadic (once every 5 minutes) image glitches. At this point I think the issue is that this configuration is too close to the maximum bandwidth supported by HDMI 2.1. Is it possible to remedy the situation by removing audio support from the monitor to free up some bandwidth? I don't use the headphone jack on the monitor anyway.

360 hz isnt, necessary 240 hz is still an option, but its well over my budget for both. i would also need to stay 1080p for it to be less expensive, since 1440p is not a joke in pricing from 144 hz. also, heat shouldnt be an issue, its a manufacturer artificial limitation, that they implement on budget gaming monitors. yes, its funny that now i say this, but i thought you can get around it. looks like you cant and its an issue. because of this i might need to buy a monitor that is worth the money, since 1080p high refresh monitors (over 165 hz) can be an interesting find, because the manufacturer (literally any) can simply limit you still, even though you paid much more for lets say 240 hz. well, i didnt want to tell anyone, but my monitor actually has a few stuck and/or dead pixels that arent that visible, but they are there. not an issue if you are wondering.

oh and, i tried the interlaced 1440i, but i couldnt. because it wasnt visible! i dont know why, but its interesting. Big Grin
Hello! I wanted to remove the 4096x2160 resolutions from my Sony TV, following this guide: https://www.monitortests.com/blog/guide-...4096x2160/

However, after I am finished in CRU and reboot Windows, I only get a black screen. I cannot access the desktop, RDP and remote support is also not possible, as if Windows was stuck/frozen. I can only boot into Safe Mode and use reset-all.exe to undo the changes. This works fine, but what did I do wrong to cause this black screen and how to avoid it while still deleting the mentioned resolutions?

If Windows is frozen on boot, then that's a graphics driver bug. What GPU do you have? Are you using multiple displays?

It's not supposed to, but right now there seems to be confusion among manufacturers about how to define native resolutions greater than 4095 width/height. With DisplayID, the native resolution is supposed to be defined in a display parameters data block, but I hardly see any monitors doing this, so the driver might use the preferred flag as a hint even though it seemed to be ignored when I tested it in the past. With CTA-861, there's a new native video resolution data block and a new DisplayID 2.0 detailed resolution data block, but I have yet to see any display using these. CRU doesn't currently support editing these data blocks, but it will preserve the data blocks if they exist.

That's not anywhere near the limit for HDMI 2.1. Your monitor defines a maximum FRL rate of 48 Gbps, which is around 1777 MHz pixel clock, but NVIDIA 3000/4000-series GPUs are limited to 1350 MHz pixel clock without DSC, which is still enough for 5120x1440 @ 165 Hz. Try increasing the vertical blanking.

You need to be more specific. What monitor and GPU do you have? Are you using DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, VGA? Windows drivers don't support interlaced with DisplayPort, and AMD RDNA and NVIDIA RTX GPUs don't support interlaced at all.

Range limits doesn't control what the monitor will accept. It's just a way for the monitor to report what it supports.

I can switch between resolutions of the same scan fine, but i cannot switch between resolutions of different scan.

I run 640x480 interlaced for 6th gen games on PCSX2 Xemu and Dolphin , and i can easily switch with a hotkey between that and 1920x1440i , but i cannot switch from 480i to 1280x720p 60hz , because i can go from interlaced to interlaced resolution or progressive to progressive, but cannot switch from an interlaced resolution to a progressive resolution nor vice-versa , is there a fix im not aware of?
HotKey Resolution Changer has some limitations, but I'm having a hard time finding another resolution switcher that will list all modes.

It's an RTX 5080 with driver 572.83 and the only connected display is a Sony X95K TV (HDMI). I'll test with another driver version, thanks! Smile

Nvidia drivers are a mess currently and this driver also has other issues with color saturation when using non-native resolutions, but: it's at least stable for the 5080 while newer drivers have even more issues. So I am a bit stuck with this version for now. But as soon as I renew the drivers I'll try again with CRU and removal of 4096x2160.
