Heya,

long story short:

My GTX580 is connected to a BenQ XL2411T.

While using Windows 8 / 8.1 (x64) i was wondering about the missing option to choose the scaler. There is only GPU available in the dropdown menu, so I spent hours trying to get the setting, which IS available within Windows 7 and yes, it's working there.

Tried various drivers until 296.10 which is usually only a Windows 7 x64 driver due to its age. I got the damn setting back and it worked.

BUT:

1. The driver is as old as it's slow.
2. After installing refreshrates with Lightstrobe the option is gone again!

SO:

I need to know which registry key is being changed / overwritten so that the option isn't available anymore. This could lead me to a solution to use the display scaling even in newer drivers.

As far as i know, this is a problem known for XL2411t users as same as for VG248QE if they're using Windows 8 and upwards.
Like i said, in Windows 7 it works like intended, even with the latest drivers.

Need some experts here.

Phoenix EDID doesn't work as the import from registry says : 'Invalid EDID' - Now that i think about it, I didn't try that with the 296.10 ones, while the function was still there since I'm on the latest drivers again, hoping for a solution. I could try it again, but I want to try another method first. (Registry preferred)
Whether display scaling is available depends on whether lower resolutions are defined in the EDID. Strobelight's setup program creates an EDID override with only the native resolution at different refresh rates.

I don't see why Windows 7 vs. 8 would make a difference. That seems like a driver issue. Display scaling should be available out of the box with those monitors. Maybe in Windows 8, the driver wants a lower resolution with the same refresh rate, which wouldn't be available for 144 Hz.

Use CRU instead of Phoenix if you want to play around with EDID overrides: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa...tility-CRU

For 1920x1080 @ 144 Hz, use the "LCD reduced" timing option. You can use "LCD standard" for other resolutions.
I am not sure, as this is not an area where i have that much knowledge because of the rareness of problems here.

I do have lower resolutions and i can switch between the refreshrates. (1024x768@144hz for instance) and even after a reboot with these settings
i am not able to choose anything else. No matter what, it still looks like this:

As i want Lightboost with Lightstrobe, so I don't have to install the nVidia 3D-Stuff, i'm not quite sure what to do now.

I need the following settings : 1920x1080@120 (Lightboost activated), 1920x1080@144 (Lightboost deactivated) and 1440x1080@120 (Lightboost activated).

And i want to be able to get the scaling option back, so i can reduce my input lag by setting it to display scaling@no scaling.

The driver automatically adds some standard lower resolutions with GPU scaling. The lower resolution needs to be defined in the EDID for display scaling to be available.

GPU scaling does not add lag. LightBoost only works properly at the native resolution, so GPU scaling is required for lower resolutions to work with LightBoost. You will need to add 1440x1080 as a custom resolution.
Still wondering, because the EDID should be the same for Windows 7 as for Windows 8.
Not the only one with this problem.

I've read about the input lag due to GPU scaling (even at the no scaling setting) for nvidia from many (google)sources.
Sadly i don't have any equipment to measure that, because i would do it then. Big Grin

Well, if you're 1000% sure that GPU scaling doesn't add input lag i don't need CRU as I've already used 1440x1080 with Lightstrobe.
