You're probably hitting a pixel clock limit. The laptop probably uses DisplayPort internally, which automatically switches to 6-bit if 8-bit is not possible.

So isn't there any any way to force the display at 8bit 90hz ?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hi there! I have a BenQ XL2720Z since October 23rd 2014 and recently it started to act strange.

This is the problem: (it's in portuguese, but I'm sure you will understand)

It says that the native for my monitor is 60Hz, but the XL2720Z is 144Hz! Why did that happen and can I fix it using CRU? How?

It says the native is 1920x1080, not 60 Hz. I don't see why that's a problem.

Hi, ToastyX, thanks for answering!

The problem is that when I change to 144Hz, Windows details get very weird. Fonts get dizzy and Windows icons (maximize, minimize). All sites in all browsers get weird fonts and details. You would think that this is Windows Clear Type, but it's not. My Clear Type is on. When I try to get a printscreen to show it to you, surprise! The print is ok! So I was forced to take pictures with my phone.

Can you spot the difference?

That has nothing to do with the native designation. There's something wrong with the monitor. Try unplugging the monitor's power for a minute and see if that resets it.

Thanks ToastyX, but it was the first thing I did, and I do this every day since it began, and it doest not reset. Is there a button in the back of the monitor where I can reset the EPROM?

And what about this? BAD_EDID in my Windows Registry, could this be reason of the problem?

No, if the EDID were bad, you wouldn't get 144 Hz at all. Did you reset the monitor?
