If it the single link DVI can handle it, then that will definitely be my go to route.

Normally the driver won't allow it, but it can be done with the pixel clock patch. I know the VG248 can handle 100/120 Hz with single-link DVI because I've tested it. 144 Hz might even be possible if the signal is stable enough.
