Lightboost 1440x810
Hello I have an nvidia optimus with HDMI (I know it's the worst case scenario). I noticed that the custom resolutions that activate LB on 1080p have 5 more on back porch related to the LCD Standard. So if I use a PC to start LB once and then try 1440x810 - 120hz (the maximum resolution that HDMI supports here) with incremental back porch values, should I be abble to enable LB in my setup?

No, LightBoost only works at 1080p with dual-link DVI or DisplayPort. It will not work with HDMI.

Even powered by NVIDIA, Optimus actually operates the custom resolutions via the Intel graphics, and currently as far as I know, Strobelight doesn't send DDC/CI commands through the Intel GPU necessary to do the one-time initialization of LightBoost.

However, you can activate LightBoost using another computer (desktop), then switch back to your Optimus laptop, output a 1080p with a Vertical Total of at least 1147, and successfully activate LightBoost via Optimus that way as long as you don't unplug your computer monitor from power since successfully initializing it directly.

You might be able to output 1080p 120Hz via HDMI by forcing it (it works on some monitors -- similiar instructions as http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/120hz-pc-to-tv ...), but not all monitors can accept 1080p 120Hz via HDMI, you would want to test ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility here, and see what happens.

I've already tried that before with the VG248QE, but it won't accept 120 Hz on the HDMI port. It will accept 120 Hz with an HDMI-DVI cable on the DVI port, but LightBoost modes will only display the left half of the screen stretched out to fill the screen.

CRU won't work with Optimus either, and Intel's control panel doesn't seem to allow going past 165 MHz pixel clock with HDMI, so it's not possible to add 1920x1080 @ 120 Hz.
