Higher refresh rate Dell SE2417HG
Greetings...Just got a good deal Dell SE2417HG (TN panel) recently. Like to push its refresh rate higher than 60hz (default native 1080p@60hz), tried the CRU as per instruction (great utility), I am able to go as higher as upto 66hz (with 1080p resolution) Big Grin with no frame drops, anything higher is no good.
ID : DELD08C
V : 56 - 76 hz
H : 30 - 83 khz
Max pixel clock : 170 Mhz
1920x1080@60 (148.50 Mhz + +)
-----------------------------
Is the Max pixel clock rules the whole thing regardless what V / H rate is, as long as the Max pixel clock is within the 170 Mhz limit, the setting will be okay ?

As I have dual boot with old XP which was built with a old Dell P1110 (CRT) monitor. When I flip over to XP first time with this new monitor, the XP has mistaken assumed it still with the P1110 which offers my many rooms for combination settings. I was able to push this monitor to 1920x1200@70hz, it did as my desktop area is bigger than 1080 and the text/whole xp window looks much BETTER...then next, when I try it again, change back/forward between 1080 and 1200, the XP window no long response to my command, I am not able to play with the 1920x1200@75 any more...Noted the P1110 profile with Max pixel clock as high as 280Mhz. Shy

Is there a way to just override the "Range Limits" a bit (risky) or is it locked by the product ID ?

RE: Higher refresh rate Dell SE2417HG
The range limits is informational and does not affect what the monitor can do. Usually the refresh rate is limited by the firmware in the monitor ("out of range" message or black screen or noise artifacts) or by pixel clock limits in the graphics driver (refresh rate not listed or fuzzy image beyond 165 MHz pixel clock with DVI).

What video card do you have? Are you using HDMI? If so, does the monitor have an extension block with an HDMI data block?

Sometimes trying different timing parameters helps. You can try the "LCD reduced" timing option to try higher refresh rates while keeping the pixel clock under 165 MHz. That usually works for 1080p monitors.

RE: Higher refresh rate Dell SE2417HG
Thanks for your suggestions. The "LCD reduced" does allowed higher rate. After played it around few weeks with my GPU (ATI HD4200, not gaming here), I have found this SE2417HG has serious issue with the bleeding, it can be seen via its Paper and Warm mode setting, the top and the bottom is completely different color, it is unacceptable so I finally has to returned it for now. Looking for a 27"/32" 1440p for sale but prefer to be using dual-link DVI-D interface as the HD4200 does offer DL DVI-D with 2560x1600@60. Will the Pixel limit Patch helps for DL DVI-D to HDMI (cable/adapter) ? my GPU only offers 1440p with its DL DVI-D port (Tested it a year ago with a 24+1 pins DVI-D adapter to HDMI monitor with no good result).

Is there a way to know what is the new limit on ports (HDMI/DVI-D/VGA) AFTER Patched ?

Its good know that CRU offers more settings for monitor which I don't know about before. Excellent tool.

The HD 4200 is too old for the patch. The patch is for 5000-series and newer GPUs. HDMI is limited to 165 MHz pixel clock on 4000-series and older GPUs. You can't run a 1440p monitor on HDMI with 4000-series GPUs except at lower refresh rates like 40 Hz, if the monitor accepts that.
