Full Version: Overclocking to higher than 1440p60

I have a Korean monitor that I managed to overclock to 189Hz using Nvidia's control panel. The thing is, I'd rather use my AMD card as FreeSync works there (I guess Nvidia lied about supporting FreeSync). However, in CRU, it's not letting me go above 165Hz. AMD's control panel just flat out refuses anything about 165Hz.

Any ideas?
Turns out 9xx series is not supported. Bummer.
What monitor? What resolution? What happens when you try to go above 165 Hz?

Both CRU and Radeon drivers do not want to go higher. Nvidia Control Panel has no problem doing so.
You need to add a DisplayID extension block and add a detailed resolutions data block in there to go higher than 655.35 MHz pixel clock. I would also edit the range limits and set the max pixel clock high enough so the driver doesn't ignore it.

Im running through a similar issue. First time CRU user and I'm sure I'll trying to grasp everything in the custom res. I'm trying to make my Console that is similar to a crate , the number 1 and the 3rd from last letter of the alphabet . My laptop is really old and the drivers are old , but I was able to get the overclocking to display 1920x1080 at 95Hz. I'm trying to get it forced to a native ( at least) 120 Hz so that the console can AUTOMATICALLY give me the resolution at 120 hz . Not console forced to HDMI and take the 120. I was able to overclock this to a buddy's laptop with. Gtx1060, I think , to 144hz refresh rate. Would love be to hear what I'm doing wrong and this post is very close to it. I don't think it's a bandwidth issue since both the HDMI ports are 2.0 ( input and output) ... Tried overclocking the pixel clock to a decent 665Mhz , but no luck yet .

Your post makes no sense. I don't see what the laptop has to do with the console, and I don't see how this is a similar problem. 1920x1080 @ 120/144 Hz is nowhere near enough to run into the 655.35 MHz limit.

Frst of all , I'm sorry for the confusion . And secondly, THANK YOU NOT JUST FOR THE REPLIES , BUT FOR THE CONTINUOUS EFFORTS AND CARE YOU PUT OUT THERE.

I meant similar issue because I'm trying to do a custom res ad native so that the console can recognize it as a NATIVE AUTOMATIC choice in the display options . Here's what I do have and the issue.

The monitor supports full HD 1920x1080@165Hz through the DP port . So far so good . I was able to get 1920x1080@144hz using ANOTHER laptop ( through the regular setting within windows to change refresh rate. I'm attempting All of this so that my console can recognize the NATIVE Resolution of 1920x1080@120hz. The monitor also has freesync . It's not a powerhouse , but it does have the requirements so that the console SHOULD recognize it through the AUTO DETECTION. The monitor has 1 hdmi 2.0 port , 2 hdmi 1.4 ports and a DP port at 1.4v.

My goal is to run my console at AT LEAST 1080P@ 120HZ (which I already can do , without freesync ) and TRY to get it working at 1440p@120.
I said I don't think it's a bandwidth issue because the reduced LCD res within the CRU , after I input all of the timings , gives me less than the 600Mhz of the 2.0 bandwidth capacity. I figured , since both interfaces are working with HDMI 2.0 ports , I should be able to run all kinds of resolutions within that limit . Although I'm really only interested in 2 at this time. The 1920x1080@120hz and the 2560x1440@120hz.

I'm very new to CRU. Don't mean to offend or confuse anyone out here . I mentioned im using my OLD laptop for using CRU and getting those Resolutions to be detected or selectable . The console automatically detects 720p , 1080p@60hz.

CRU creates software overrides and doesn't change anything on the monitor, so I don't see how that would affect the console.
