Normally when i launch games it will just turn its self off unless the game is running in window mode
Check the NVIDIA control panel under "Manage 3D settings" and make sure "Preferred refresh rate" is set to "Application-controlled" and not "Highest available" for your monitor.

If you install only 120 Hz, then strobing should be on all the time, but some games won't work properly without 60 Hz available.
