CRU only creates software EDID overrides. It shouldn't affect anything permanently. Running reset-all.exe and rebooting should remove all the EDID overrides and reset the Windows screen resolution settings. If there isn't a * next to the monitor name in CRU, then there isn't an EDID override in effect.

It sounds more like you're using the wrong resolution. 1028x768 (or 1024x768) doesn't make sense unless you're using a very old monitor.
