Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)

Hello there. I am a dumbass and it took me a stupidly long amount of time to get CRU to work for me to enable Dolby Home Theater the first time I tried this.

I used EDWriter-beta 2 to grab my TV (LG C1) EDID then moved the cable over to my Onkyo HT-S3800 and grabbed it's EDID, merged them together, then I used CRU 1.5.3 to load the bin file and viola my Dolby Home Theater works when using version 3.14.67.0 of the Dolby Access app.

However on my previous setup, same video card (2080 TI) same TV (LG C1) I was able to also have VRR enabled. Before doing this merge I was able to have 1080p 119hz VRR enabled but after doing the merge VRR is no longer possible to enable via Display -> Advanced Display or by going to nVidia Control Panel as the option is not there.

I have no idea what I did before that allowed me to enable VRR but I would very much like to be able to turn that back on if possible.

The only thing I could find for CRU edits was to change the Range Limits but those are already set at:
V Rate 24 - 120 Hz
H Rate 30 - 255 kHz
Max Pixel Clock 1190 MHz

I can't find anything else about editing edid with CRU to tell Windows my TV has VRR. Is there a HEX Value I should edit with the EDWriter that would tell Windows to enable VRR?

The only other thought I have is that I need to reassemble my old PC and just steal its EDID info with EDWriter and move it over but it'd be so much better if I understood how to do this going forward when I eventually upgrade to something better than the 2080 TI.

HDMI VRR is in the HDMI 2 data block.

i changed the resolution to 1720:1080 i restarted and then i always get black bars i changed scalemode to fullscreen but its still got blackbars even with fullscreen

Scaling is controlled by the monitor or the GPU depending on how you have it set up. If it's the monitor, you have to set the scaling in the monitor's menus. If it's the GPU, you have to set the scaling in the GPU's control panel. The first detailed resolution is always sent to the monitor.

i changed the scaling in the gpus control panel still not working a year ago i didnt hat the problem i always put the strechted res above my normal res so the strechted res is native bcs then i could use the strechted res with no scaling mode in control panel but now i cant even play it with full screen scaling mode

The GPU's control panel only affects GPU-scaled resolutions. The first detailed resolution is always sent to the monitor, so it's not scaled by the GPU. You need to set the scaling in the monitor's OSD.

There’s a dirty trick that might work, but it requires a fresh build of Windows 11 and display with VRR enabled.
The trick relies on Windows 11’s ability to set a different resolution and refresh rate for wdm than the active display signal, which is possible thanks to VRR.

Steps:
1.Using CRU, find the timings for the best configuration your display supports.
2.Create a custom 1720×1080 resolution using the timings you found in CRU.
3.Set your display to 1920x1080 or other desired best resolution
4.Open Regedit and navigate to:
{HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configurati​on}, Here you’ll find all possible display combinations for your PC.
5.Locate your desired display combination, open the key, and change PrimSurfSize.cx to 6B8 and PrimSurfSize.cy to 438
6.Set Scaling to 1.
7.Pray it works

Log out and log back in.
It worked for me, but obviously its heavily display depended.

I have an old Full HD laptop MSI GT70 with Intel Graphics 4000 and a new 2K monitor connected as a second display via HDMI 1.4.
The problem is that I can't see 2K resolution for my monitor in Windows Display settings or in Intel Graphics settings.
I updated the Intel Graphics 4000 driver manually from 10.18.10.4252 to 10.18.10.5161, but it didn’t help.
I also tried CRU: I saw 2K resolution in Detailed Resolution, pressed OK, restarted the driver — still didn’t help. I tried with CVT-RB too, but same result.
Could you please help me understand: is it possible for my laptop to output 2K to this monitor, or do I need to change some hardware?

Sorry, I meant 2560×1440 at 180 Hz.
My laptop only has HDMI 1.4, so I know it should be limited to 2560×1440 at 60 Hz, which is fine for me for now.

The issue is that Windows and the Intel Graphics Control Panel don’t even show 2560×1440 as an option for this monitor.
It only lists up to 1920×1080.
That’s why I tried adding 2560×1440 with CRU (both manual and CVT-RB), but it still didn’t appear.
Is there a way to force 2560×1440 60 Hz through HDMI 1.4 on Intel HD Graphics 4000?
