RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I've got CRU working fine, but the resolution doesn't always stick. If I wake my laptop up after a period of sleep, it may or may not reset to the poorer resolution. When this happens, I run restart.exe or restart64.exe, and then set the better resolution. This resetting also happens if I disconnect my laptop from my monitor for a while or I restart my computer. I have a Dell XPS 15 and the external monitor is a Dell U2711. I've got the detailed resolution set to 2560x1440 @ 60Hz. When it resets it goes back to 1920x1080. I'm using an HDMI cable to connect the two. Can anyone help with this issue? Thanks.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hello all! I cant seem to find out why, when I restart my PC my CRU settings that I have are being reset ( in this case, the jump from 60Hz to 75Hz ). When I goto the Advanced Display Settings in Windows 7, it reports only 60Hz and no other options, but the screen is actually sill at the 75Hz refresh rate because I can feel it. If I run the restart.exe file, the 75Hz option comes back. I'm unsure whether this is a conflict with the Nvidia control panel or whats causing the issue.

The graphics card is a EVGA Nvidia GTX 760 SC connected using a DVI-D cable. The monitor is an Asus VS248HR 24".

Cheers!

EDIT: In the Nvidia Control Panel, its reporting 75Hz but not in Windows. How to fix this?

Tell NVIDIA to fix their broken driver. Mismatches like that shouldn't be possible. Any issue that goes away after running restart.exe is a driver issue. Does CRU show any extension blocks by default?

That sounds like a driver bug. Does the laptop have switchable graphics (Intel+NVIDIA GPU) or does it only have the NVIDIA GPU? Are you using Windows 7? Did you make 2560x1440 @ 60 Hz the first detailed resolution?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Greetings. First of all, thanks for the amazing tool @ToastyX. I have a problem that appears however to be hardware specific.

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070
Monitor: Eizo FlexScan S241W native resolution: 1920x1200

I am trying to use CRU to trick EDID into thinking 1920x1080 instead, for use with the display's no-scaling (centered). Problem is that after restart64ing, this resolution looks both offset to the right and clipped, i.e. for some reason the actual display is happening in less than 1920 columns. After struggling much with it, I today discovered that this problem appears wherever I put the 1920x180 resolution: either in detailed resolutions or standard resolutions or in a custom extension block. in other words if I have CRU handle that resolution, its becomes broken, if I remove that resolution from CRU altogether, it reverts to the default 1920x1080 which is displayed correctly. I use LCD standard and native timings for my tests.

First fact is that this problem first appear in this monitor. I have another Eizo monitor in another rig on which the modified EDID works quite fine and as indented. Could it be that my DVI cable is the culprit? Or just that my current graphics card simply can't handle it?

Second (frustrating) fact is that whatever other resolution I define with CRU, even some weird ones in a custom extension block, are all displayed properly centered on my display. Only 1920x1080 is broken like that.

I know the info ain't much, but if you could provide me with some pointers on my search I would greatly appreciate it. My last search lead me to try and see the values of my default 1920x1080 in the registry, so that I use these values when defining the resolution with CRU, but I have met little success. Also, when viewing the values for my natural native resolution of 1920x1200 in the registry, I see it matching with the values in CRU for that resolution, and generally I understand that the timing values are pretty standard for each resolution, so I am starting to loosing hope.

Any leads? Thank you in advance for your time. Let me know if you need more info that I might have omitted.

Try "LCD reduced" for 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz.

No, this sounds like a monitor limitation, not a cable or graphics card limitation.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Thanks for your prompt reply @ToastyX. No luck with "LCD reduced" timings either. I tried switching polarity too because it gives me a +/+ contrary to the +/- I usually get.

I speculate that if my monitor can display the 1920x1080 properly when left untouched by CRU, there has to be a timings setting that can work. Otherwise how's it possible? I've been trying to fetch the used timings for 1920x1080 from the registry with no luck. All I have found is the values for the defined [native] resolution, either the proper one or the one set by CRU, so no gain there. I cannot find where the timings of the [current] resolution (and not the native) are, if any. My hope is that If I can find those timings for the good looking 1920x1080 (without CRU) I could pass them down to CRU settings for said resolution. Thanks again for your help.

EDIT: my proper native resolution is 1920x1200@59.950Hz vertical so I tried both 60Hz and 59.95Hz with the same results so that doesn't seem to be it.

MAJOR EDIT:

Here is what the DumpEDID utility gives me:

In the custom config an extra line appears!!!
Image Size : 48.0 X 30.0 cm (22.3 Inch)
which is different from
Maximum Image Size : 52 X 33 cm (24.2 Inch)
which exists in both EDIDs (naturally).

My monitor is indeed 24inch so as you can see the displayed area is indeed smaller with the CRU custom resolution! Seems like it's mistaking the display for a 22.3inch 16/10 monitor? Seems like my monitor's original 16/10 (for 1920x1200) is forced in displaying 1920x1080. The dimensions I read agree with what I see on the screen. Hope that helps diagnose the problem. It seems indeed like a display issue which downs my hopes but, like I said, originally 1920x1080 can be displayed so there has to be a way with CRU too...

Nope, don't think so!

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Guys, when I connect my PC to my TV throught HDMI and try to use 1920x1080 the screen becomes blurry and the image doesn't fit the screen (also happens with 1280x720).
If I do the same but with DVI-VGA adapter then I can use 1920x1080 properly. Throught HDMI the display info label says 1080p@60hz but with VGA it says 1920x1080.

Is there anything I could do to use 1920x1080 via hdmi?

I use 1360x768 for windows.

The graphics driver automatically adds some common lower resolutions as scaled resolutions if they don't exist in the EDID. CRU should list 1920x1080 by default if it's in the EDID. If 1920x1080 doesn't exist in the EDID, then 1920x1080 is GPU scaled. CRU creates EDID overrides, so if you add 1920x1080 using CRU, the graphics driver will send the resolution to the monitor instead of scaling it. If the monitor can't display 1920x1080 correctly with any of the timing options, then the only option you have is to use GPU scaling. The NVIDIA control panel has "Aspect ratio" and "No scaling" options that will keep 1920x1080 centered within 1920x1200 with GPU scaling.

The graphics driver doesn't use the image size information, so CRU just uses generic values for detailed resolutions. This doesn't affect the image in any way.
