LG 34UC80 Overclocking past 75hz with Freesync enabled
I recently got an LG 34UC80 and I'm loving it - running on a Radeon R9 Fury X. I have used CRU to get the Freesync range to 33-75 and I'm interested in overclocking the refresh up higher than 75hz. I have been been able to add additional detailed resolutions above 75hz, but when I do, the AMD settings driver reports "Freesync Not Supported."

So what am I missing? After I add the resolution, Windows allows me to select the higher refresh, but if I can't use Freesync with the higher refresh, it's not worth the trouble. Any way to get a higher refresh and still have Freesync working?

Thanks for any input you may have!

Did you change the FreeSync range to include the higher refresh rate?

I definitely did.

I definitely did.

But if I hadn't shouldn't I still see Freesync enabled and just a range that doesn't reach the higher refresh?

No, FreeSync won't be available if the current refresh rate is not included in the range. If you're using DisplayPort, make sure the kHz range and max MHz matches the new resolution.

No, FreeSync won't be available if the current refresh rate is not included in the range. If you're using DisplayPort, make sure the kHz range and max MHz matches the new resolution.

I am using display port. To be clear, I set the Freesync range using the edit button top right to set 33-80 hz for the V rate Range Limit. And I set up a custom detailed resolution of 3440x1440 @ 80 hz.

Is there something else I need to change? The H rate kHz on the range limit is set to 90-90 - I have not touched this. And CRU reports Pixel clock: 430.86 MHz for an 80 Hz refresh and Horizotal: 119.680 kHz (Resolution set using Automatic - LCD Standard).

I can post screens if it helps for you to see my settings.

BTW, I have tried 76, 77, 79 as well for both custom resolution and freesync range, and get the same "freesync not supported message.

I really appreciate the assistance!

Make sure the H rate matches the new resolution (119-119 kHz), and make sure the max pixel clock is high enough to include the new resolution (multiple of 10, so 440 MHz).

Thanks - I tried adding these, but same result. Couple of questions:

Do I need to set the Freesync range in the extension block as well? I'm thinking no, since I'm on display port, but let me know if I'm mistaken.

How are the H rate and pixel clock calculated for the Freesync range? I've done some searching as I prefer to try to work this stuff out on my own rather than bugging folks, but I haven't been able to find any solid information.

Unfortunately, I'm thinking I may not be able to get the monitor overclocked with Freesync at this point unless you have some other tricks up your sleeve. ;-)

Thanks again!

No, that's for HDMI.

Use the values from the detailed resolution.

Got it! Thanks! Will try some more playing around later.
