Samsung Q80C QLED TV messing with colors
Hi, everyone! Since Samsung dropped three my requests already, I'd like to ask here, if anyone faced this problem.
So once I turn on my TV which is connected to my PC, it displays normal colors. Everything works as expected. However, if I switch to TV menu and back to PC source or if I reboot my PC, the colors change... they become more yellowish, red becomes more orange-looking. It's noticeable in SDR mode, but even more in HDR. However if i make a cold restart for my TV (not touching my PC) by holding power button for 5 sec, the colors get back to normal until the next time I reboot my PC or switch to TV main screen menu and back to source. I tried to click different settings in CRU but nothing helped. I don't know what's causing it and how to fix it. The problem is that my colors are calibrated for the first mode (after the cold start), this mode gives me better red colors and more accurate representation. I probably could somehow calibrate my TV for the "wrong" mode, but again it means that in "correct" mode the colors will be distorted. It got even worse with the latest Tizen 9 upgrade. Because before that colors were only affected by switching to menu and back. Now with the upgrade the colors are affected when I reboot my PC as well which is very annoying. Any help or advice is appreciated. |

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, check if you have this option: https://imgur.com/a/QJOGB
Auto-select might be causing the problem. |

Yes, I skipped this option (never paid attention to it), so I tried all options. Unfortunately this doesn't work. I selected the recommended one, however the issue appeared after I clicked HOME button on my TV and instantly got back to desktop. Took one simple action to ruin the colors again. I'm just trying to figure out what sort of conversion is happening. To avoid software issues I made two screenshots of the YouTube logo (with two different color modes on my TV activated because of this glitch) and compared them in Photoshop. Both looked the same and had the same HEX code. I also tried to tweak "Colorimetry" in CRU but this didn't change nothing. I wish I could change something in default SAMSUNG screen menu (maybe this is the bug), but unfortunately I can only tweak image settings in apps, including connected devices, but not in the main menu. The most drastic changes are that the yellowish colors become more deep, orange\looking, while deep ruby reds become more like fire red. The greens also change a bit, they start looking less saturated, more olive maybe. While i'm checking image settings (like maybe something changes automatically like color space or anything), but no. Everything's always the same. Like I have no control over this. |

Can you check the Windows color management settings? There might be a color profile that's not being applied after the TV disconnects and reconnects. If not, then it's probably a firmware bug that Samsung would need to fix.

If not, then it's probably a firmware bug that Samsung would need to fix. I don't have any active color profiles connected. Also, TV doesn't disconnect when I launch home button. It actually keeps receiving the signal. But for some reason triggering home menu also triggers some weird color behavior from TV itself, which can't be tracked with picture settings or anything. I thought maybe there's some workaround with CRU...... Yes, Samsung is aware of this bug, I created 3 requests over the past 2 years, but they dropped all three. Sad thing is that the latest upgrade to Tizen 9 didn't solve it. But it looks like a communication issue between TV and PC which should be theoretically controlled by EDID or something. But like i said - I didn't find any working tweaks in CRU. And I don't understand the nature of this bug. If i don't trigger home screen, sometimes I can use my TV with correct colors for weeks without hard reboot. But a few seconds in home screen is enough to ruin it. Anyway, thanks for your feedback. It's a bit upsetting there's not much information on the internet about this bug. Probably people are not paying attention to such things, while I can assure the difference is very noticeable. |
