The GPU is quite old. It probably only supports up to 165 MHz pixel clock, which is enough for 1920x1080/1200 @ 60 Hz. 2560x1440 would only be possible at around 40 Hz. Also, Intel didn't add support for EDID overrides until later, so CRU would have no effect directly. The alternative method described in the first post might work, but only for resolutions up to 165 MHz pixel clock.
