RE: Trying to force windows to recognize Dolby 5.1
Hi there Toasty! I'm using a EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 to transmit 4k video to a "C7 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class" TV. I have an older receiver (Sony STR-DG510), so the HDMI passthrough doesn't work for 4k 60hz resolution. Therefore, I transmit sound to the receiver via optical cable passthrough from the TV, and I've enabled the "passthrough" option on the TV's sound menu.

Unfortunately, this means that my PC only sees the TV, and only offers me two sound options: Stereo, and Dolby Atmos. When I use Dolby Atmos, the speaker system does play sounds as expected, but there is a substantial delay.

I'm not sure why this happens. I have a suspicion it is because the old receiver needs to decode Atmos down to 5.1 before it can play properly, leading to the delay. If you think this is plausible, how would I use CRU to trick my PC into thinking that the TV supports Dolby 5.1?

Thanks so much for your help! LOVE CRU, and a Patreon supporter.

Add AC-3 in the audio formats data block in the extension block.

Not for a fullscreen 1080p (which will refresh the entire setup and that takes ages on surround + moves my windows all over on my accessory display) but simply to be able to select 1080p in the drop down for 1080p windowed.
To have 1080p with Surround, you need to add a resolution that adds up to 1920x1080 on all the monitors. I'm not sure how to calculate that with bezel correction.

hmm, that is an angle I hadnt looked at it from before.
I wouldnt actually have to "create" the surround unit/aka have my entire desktop running at 1080p right? I could keep my 4680x2560 desktop and it would just give me the option to select 1080p in games?

Also "calculating for bezel correct" shouldnt be relevant. For example, games i force 1080p on now, show up hidden behind my bezels as it is a wider resolution (1920) than my monitor is (1440) (since they are in portrait).

This is fine as I mentioned its for playing on the steam link which captures it from the card and that doesnt come into play.

This is all good news UNLESS i'd be required to set my desktop reso to 1080p, then its an epic fail/no bueno.

Please clarify and thank you!!!

I've tried that - see first attachment. Unfortunately, 5.1 audio is still not selectable (see second attachment).

Did you configure the speakers in the Windows sound control panel?

I don't know. I don't have a Surround setup to check. I don't know how the driver decides what lower resolutions are available with Surround (if any).

Are you using CRU or the patcher?

I have a display only going up to 63Hz. How can I manipulate the advanced section to get it higher?

Cheers
