It would be somewhere in the Intel control panel, but I don't know if it's available for CRT monitors.

The existing resolutions are defined by the monitor, so those will be available by default. I mean if you add a lower resolution, does it show up? If not, then EDID overrides don't seem to be working with your GPU+monitor.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
ToastyX,

I tried to add 720x576 (which was on the list to choose between) and that that is absent afterwards, as is 600x480. The Sreen Resolution and Graphics Properties on show resolutions down to 800x600.

Apart from that, since the latest attempts with CRU.exe, I get this error message on PC startup:

Intel Driver Update utility is unable to start because a supporting system failed to start.

The only option is to click OK.

That seems like an NVIDIA driver limitation. VGA should work fine with CRU if the monitor has an EDID. If it's a non-PnP monitor without an EDID, drivers sometimes have odd bugs with EDID overrides.

It´s a hacked crt tv for rgb which I´m using with emulators, I made yesterday a circuit with an eeprom pulled from an old vga chassis but it didnt´work, I´ll recheck thediagrams Dodgy

Windows won't list resolutions lower than 800x600 in the display settings. Try adding a detailed resolution like 1000x750 @ 60 Hz with the "CRT standard" timing option and see if that shows up.

CRU doesn't mess with the graphics driver, so I don't know what would cause that. If it only happens with an EDID override present, then it's a driver bug.

Is that a laptop display? It's normal for the laptop display to only have the native resolution. Standard resolutions are limited to certain aspect ratios, and the horizontal resolution must be a multiple of 8 and not more than 2288. If the resolution you want isn't in the drop-down list, I would just add a detailed resolution instead. The problem is if you're trying to add a resolution higher than 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz, the driver might ignore it because of bandwidth limitations. If that's the case, I don't know if there's a way to do what you need.

I thought they said over on the MSI laptop forums, that you HAVE to use the Intel control panel itself to create custom resolutions, on the driver that was updated for custom resolution support ? Or was I wrong?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
ToastyX,

I tried a new detailed resolution (960x720 at 60Hz automatic CRT standard timing), but it failed to turn up, unfortunately.

By the way, the error message stopped after a few startups (and Windows updates).

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
So, I am trying to change the frequency of a 1080p tv monitor, but every time I go over the standard 60hz, the resolution changes from 1920 to 960 x 1080. The frequency mod takes effect, but the image is stretched weirdly, so it is not usable. I also tried 1600 x 900, but I still got the stretched resolution as before. My system is using a really old gpu, (the Geforce 8800 gts I think) so could this be the cause of the problem?

Are you keeping the pixel clock under 165 MHz?

Seems like EDID overrides aren't working for you at all even though they should with your GPU and the driver you installed. Maybe they didn't implement it for VGA monitors. Do you have any HDMI or DVI monitors that you can test?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I figured a way to tweak my second vga monitor after adding a couple resolutions with CRU, Nv Cp wont enable it but windows manager can, after that I can go back to nv cp and tweak color settings and even add custom resolutions (I need those 32 resolutions for emulators), the problem is that nvidia custom resolutions and CRU detailed resolutions wont play nice together, they make each others disappear, it´s like they make a virtual monitor which each other can´t work with... noooooooo!.

Ps.- Now I´ve been trying the inf part of cru and the detailed resolutions work fine, but nvidia custom resolutions (which i set after installing the inf) get skipped by emulators (they are there as per NvCRBT dumps) they detect them on the guis but at the moment of switching they will pick one of CRU resolutions instead Dodgy oh well, if cru could support at least 40 or 50 detailed resolutions I could dump nvcp Big Grin
