A while ago I got a new monitor, Acer XG270HU, I noticed that I couldn't set it higher than 60hz on 2560x1440, and 75 on lower resolutions, even though the monitor advertised 144hz. After doing some research I realized that it was because my AMD Radeon R9 200 series Graphics Card does not support 144hz, so after finding CRU, I changed the setting and was able to get it to run 2560x1440 at 144hz, and everything was great. But just recently the monitor went back to 60hz and did not show the option to go into 144hz. I tried to use CRU again and followed different guides, and even just changed the refresh rate, yet none of it worked. After the changes to the detailed resolution (such as just setting it to 144hz) and doing restarts, it would not display the option to go to 144hz. And I couldn't even get 2560x1440 60hz to display anymore, it only showed 1920x1080 60hz. I tried setting it lower like 120hz, this worked but only on 1920x1080 and lower, anything higher wouldn't display.
Are you using DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort?

I am using DVI.

You need to use DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0 to get 2560x1440 @ 144 Hz. DVI doesn't have the bandwidth unless you patch the driver to allow overclocking the DVI port.

I used atikmdag-patcher and was able to get 2560x1440 144hz, thank you.

hi, i try using an HDMI to DVI-D adapter like this:

PC->HDMI->DVI-D->Monitor LG

but it doesn't work. I give up.
i'll use the monitor with limited RGB output or the Smart energy saving on.

P.S. There is a way to know for sure if the output is in fullrgb?

thanks

I don't have a way to check, but DVI is always supposed to be full-range RGB. If you're using DVI on the monitor's end and the extension block doesn't have an HDMI data block, then it should be sending a full-range DVI signal.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I've tried to install a resolution with a better refresh rate madvr calculated for me, but it seems the EDID override is just ignored.

As you can see in the following picture I entered the 2160p29 resolution in the Detailed resolution and in the Extension blocks sections.

Here is the resolution in detail:

The resolution is even listed in the nvidia control panel (as 30Hz and not 29Hz?):

..but if I start the video playback and choose that resolution in the PC section of the nvidia control panel I get a display refresh rate of 29.96954 and not 29.97003.

What am I doing wrong? It looks like the nvidia driver is overwriting those EDID values for some kind of reason?

Has anyone ever tried to force Freesync support on a Gsync monitor. I understand its dumb to buy a Gsync monitor I just want to know for science.

G-SYNC uses DisplayPort, and I haven't found a way to force FreeSync with DisplayPort, so I don't know if it's possible.

You don't need the same resolution in multiple places. Just keep one of them. The first detailed resolution has the highest precedence. Also, check the TV resolutions and HDMI support data blocks and make sure to delete 3840x2160 @ 30 Hz if it exists.

Windows lists refresh rates as whole numbers, so anything between [29.5, 30.5) Hz will be listed as 30 Hz.

Refresh rates are not guaranteed to be exact because of hardware clock variance. The difference between 29.97003 and 29.96954 is 0.00049 Hz, which is very close, so it looks like it's working to me. It might be possible to nudge the refresh rate closer by changing the timing parameters, but making fine adjustments like that is difficult. This might help: https://www.monitortests.com/pixelclock....h=29.97052
